I combine art, craft and design and use contemporary and traditional methods.
My work demonstrates admiration for nature, enjoyment of the handmade, interests with experimenting and a passion for colour.
I am motivated by the challenges of learning new techniques with different mediums, the discovery of new (or old) theories and experiences of fun and satisfaction from making art.
My work is influenced by artists, music, social issues…
Essentially, making art is an excellent trade or profession and a great way to invest in life.
Day of the Triffids
This was an art project completed late 2013.
First I made photographs of a particular plant growing in a public garden.
I played around with the colours using adobe bridge. The time of the day influenced the colours in the digital photograph, and I emphasised harmonies and contrasts.
I then produced simplified line drawings with a pencil, recording main shapes and outlines.
Translated these pencil drawings into stylised designs using adobe illustrator and based the colours in these computer drawings on the photographs.
Then collaged them digitally using adobe photoshop. Using a desktop scanner I scanned various other elements to create backgrounds (including actual plant pieces from the garden) as well as photographs of other items in the gardens.
